Writing
As performers there are lots of things we have to consider when writing for a venue. What are the demographics of the crowd and is there alcohol? Is it a rowdy bar or quiet coffee shop.? Are we doing live or taped performance? In our pages of chicken scratch we will display various forms of our writing in script and prose format. We have a creative commons license which basically means if you use our work in any form we need to be credited. Whether that’s a shout out or a direct link to our site, it’s really up to you.
This page will showcase some of our collaborative writing as we work towards our next show. Click on Ryan or Santos page (under Writing) to see what they may be creating on their own.

WINE PIECE
RYAN
Hello. How are you? Will there be another joining the party tonight?
SANTO
I’m fine, and yes, I’m waiting for my date.
RYAN
OK. I will be your wine steward tonight. Is there something you’d like to drink while you wait?
SANTO
I’m looking for a fine wine.
RYAN
Do you prefer red or white?
SANTO
Red’s alright. It’s my favorite color.
RYAN
Pinot Noir! May I interest you in pine, plum, and earth?
SANTO
Does that go well with dessert?
RYA
No, it’s better with dinner. Silky, deep, black fruit.
SANTO
Is it something I can have with meat?
RYAN
Probably not heavy beef.
SANTO
Do you have something fruity?
RYAN
I have something fruity for you. Subtle raspberry, vanilla, and smoke.
SANTO
Can I smoke in here?
RYAN
Tobacco, no. Hints of black raspberry with clove?
SANTO
Not a clove, a cigarette.
RYAN
Tobacco?
SANTO
No! I like fine tannins, spice, and oak.
RYAN
May I recommend a merlot?
SANTO
Maybe…NO.
RYAN
A blend might be the right way to go. Half cabernet, half merlot.
SANTO
None of that fifty percent crap though. Are they round, but dry? Big and yummy?
RYAN
Intense, robust, mineral, and coffee.
SANTO
I’m looking for a wet, big, licorice cherry.
RYAN
How bout white chocolate, sweet herbs, and berry?
SANTO
I’d like something with a soft body.
RYAN
What about medium body, zesty?
SANTO
How bout full body and creamy?
RYAN
You don’t want pepper, rich and spicy?
SANTO
White might be what’s right for me.
RYAN
You’re silly.
SANTO
No, really.
RYAN
Pinot gris. Something from Italy?
SANTO
What vinyard is that from?
RYAN
London…
SANTO
Does it have cinnamon?
RYAN
None! Honey, apricot, and lemon.
SANTO
Alomond?
RYAN
Some. Maybe we should move on to Sauvignon Blanc.
SANTO
Wet grass, kiwi zest?
RYAN
I like this one best, but you might want more citrus.
SANTO
I like something tropical and fresh.
RYAN
Maybe from Napa…Chardonnay?
SANTO
Hey! Chardonnay’s great!
RYAN
Ok.
SANTO
A buttery long finish…
RYAN
Elegant and acidic.
SANTO
Acidic – I won’t drink it.
RYAN
It’s in the fermentation.
SANTO
Honeyed marzipan?
RYAN
Off dry and lean.
SANTO
Champagne?
RYAN
You’re a pain.
SANTO
Do you want to stop and sit with me?
RYAN
I can’t stop for a sip when I’m on the clock.
SANTO
I guess I’ll have a cosmo instead.
RYAN
After all that! Jerk!
Music Piece
SANTO
Give me a little time to figure out a word for…
CELLY
Sunshine
SANTO
She’s the music in between the notes and chords played. To be comfortable in silence is to understand her sensitivity.
CELLY
You can fill in the blanks.
SANTO
I’ll tell you with some informality. From prologue to dialogue
CELLY
He’ll explain in monologue.
SANTO
She’s a wonderful mosaic on stained glass window tiffany. She’s trinity.
CELLY
It’s divinity.
SANTO
Music vibrations in your inner ear. Placing your hand on a piano. You don’t hear her…
CELLY
You feel her.
SANTO
Resting your hands on a speaker.
CELLY
My strings are irridescent. Your hands transparent as you sample slow my music. My chords ring out shimmering. Song and sound beginning, read my notes.
SANTO
She’s a flavor. A simple beat – melody.
CELLY
Raw sexuality.
SANTO
Something of a formality. From prologue to dialogue
CELLY
He’ll explain in analogue.
SANTO
She’s a unique beat. Sensibility, originality. Vibrations in your hands and body. Never an apology.
CELLY
Watch the music bounce off the sanctuary.
SANTO
Into the halls of obscurity. Behold it’s discovery. A violin from end to end or a stand up bass a nova, This body of work is celestial, man.
CELLY
You can’t label it.
SANTO
It’s a flat line – a main line. A million scenarios dialed in. To communicate without talking since the dawn of man. Taste the piano, a rich feeling.
CELLY
Using your hands.
SANTO
Verse to chorus – a sweet note – a little high and low in baritone. 16 bars of 2 numbers. She’s up tempo.
CELLY
My strings are irridescent. Your hands transparent as you sample slow my music. My chords ring out song and sound, read my notes.
SANTO
She’s a polianic piazza prism. Expanding yet defining prisim light. Dividing white narrowing yet expanding abstractedly demanding our attention
CELLY
With no spoken word…
SANTO
Non visible color wave lengths. Low fine triangle – a vinyl guitar, percussion. Drums, tambourine, a metal jangle – vitality of algorithyms, tonality of frequency, retro vintage serendipity…. A

Change the pitch, tonal elements. Perilous vocals. Zero to one…two…three…

As you sample slow my music. One..

Absorbed rhythmic sensibiltiy of dance.

Emotional conflict of modernization artists.

Cadence arrangements – infinite time period. Not static, but dynamic. Incidentally, transcendently, today as in yesterday.
